01/12/2014  The team from the charity “A Discovering Network asbl” (www.adiscoveringnetwork.eu) are organising a charitable event entitled “There is always a magic moment in life for granting a wish” at the Strofilia Greek Restaurant, Rue du Marché aux Porcs 11-13, 1000 Brussels, on Sunday 14.12.2014. In the run-up to Christmas, all Greeks in Belgium are invited to join forces to support the Make-A-Wish Greece campaign and bring a smile to children’s faces. There’ll be lots of festive cheer and you and your friends can enjoy (a) a bazaar featuring Greek products including works of art, books, etc, (b) acclaimed Greek chefs at the ‘Cook with us’ event sharing ideas about how to cook Greek dishes, (c) a tombola with gifts for all, and (d) a Christmas party with music to get everyone dancing. All proceeds from the event and from parallel events which Greek schools in Belgium are organising will go towards granting the wish of 7-year Armandos from Make-A-Wish Greece (www.makeawish.gr). He’s suffering from a life-threatening illness and wants to visit Santa’s village at Oneiroupoli (Dreamtown) in Drama. So come along and help in any way you can, giving support, joy and above all love to children. We’re looking forward to a large turnout and want to thank you in advance for coming along. We hope the net proceeds (from tickets, the tombola stall and sponsorship) will help us make a second wish come true for a child in Belgium from Make-A-Wish Belgium. It’d be great to bring Greece and Belgium together in such a great show of love: children’s dreams know no borders anyhow. To participate in helping make a wish come true you can purchase tickets at € 10 (a) online and pay by bank at http://www.adiscoveringnetwork.eu/content/pre-order-tickets-event (b) at the door in cash or (c) in advance from 28 November onwards at PERIPLE, Rue Froissart 115 - 1040 Brussels. Show your ticket at the event to get a free drink on the day.

07/07/2014 (Georgios Malos) – In June Nomiki Vivliothiki Press published a monograph about goodwill indemnity in commercial agency agreements and other long-term brokerage agreements such as distribution agreements, franchising agreements and so on. The monograph fills a void in the Greek legal literature on this topic which is particularly thorny, both from the viewpoint of legal theory and case law. The book provides a detailed presentation of goodwill indemnity (Directive 86/653/EEC), the conditions under which a claim arises and is extinguished, and issues of private international law which are exceptionally interesting given the extraterritoriality issues that arise in almost every brokerage agreement of this type. It also provides a large number of examples making it easy for working lawyers who come into contact with agreements of this kind to grasp the specifics. The work contains numerous references to German, Austrian, Italian, Belgian and Swiss legislation and case law, which is essential because of the EC (now EU) origins of the concept, and also presents how the provisions of Directive 86/653/EEC have been implemented by those countries as well as the similarities and differences in how they are implemented in the Greek legal order. Given that agreements of this sort are frequently the topic of legal negotiations between Greek companies and foreign ones, I believe this book is a useful guide for lawyers as well as business executives directly or indirectly involved in drafting contracts and claims against company debtors. More information about the book can be found at the link.
